Latest alerts

If you have been approached regarding Deposit Fixed Rate Saver, Fixed Rate Deposit Bond or Fixed Interest UK Growth Bond products please contact us as these are known to be linked to fraudulent activity.

We have also been made aware that customers of financial services organisations have been contacted by fraudsters claiming to be the police undertaking an ‘investigation’ into companies such as ourselves. Clients are then asked to withdraw some of all of their holdings for ‘review’ as part of the fictitious investigation. The Police, financial services companies or the FCA will never contact you to form part of an investigation of this nature, and will not ask you to withdraw funds from your account for this purpose. Should you be contacted, please hang up – and if using a landline, ensure a dialling tone can be heard – and call your local police station or Action Fraud, not the number provided on the call.

Established brands are often targeted by fraudsters to add the appearance of legitimacy to their crimes. This can take many forms but often fraudsters will impersonate representatives of the company. They will frequently use falsified or copied material (documentation, email addresses, websites etc.) that uses the branding and intellectual property of the company as a tool for such impersonation.

If you have concerns regarding the legitimacy of any communication with someone purporting to represent M&G please contact us immediately.

For further guidance on how to protect yourself online please see our tips on fraud prevention and online safety.

Boiler room scams

Share and bond scams are often run from ‘boiler rooms’ where fraudsters cold-call investors offering them worthless, overpriced or even non-existent shares or bonds. They use increasingly sophisticated tactics to approach investors, offering to buy or sell shares in a way that will bring a huge return.

South African Fraud

UK financial institutions are identifying a number of attempts of fraud targeting the financial assets of South African residents. Third parties are impersonating the genuine owner of such assets and attempting to withdraw funds with the intention of transferring the proceeds to bank accounts in other countries.

M&G has robust security controls in place to prevent this type of activity, however, it is also important to contact us if you suspect a third party has information in relation to your financial assets or you suspect your post has been intercepted or interfered with.

Brand Abuse

1.  Classified Advertising

We are aware that the M&G brand is being used to encourage buyers to make payment for goods such as motor vehicles, via classified advertising.  The false claim being made is to use M&G's services to hold funds until  the buyer is satisfied with the goods.  The seller is attempting to obtain funds from the buyer fraudulently claiming the bank account details are connected to M&G.

M&G does not offer such a service for goods transacted through classified advertising.

Further, we are aware of fraudulent Terms and Conditions document in connection with the scam, and we are conducting investigations in order to stop our brand being used without authorization.
