Meet the team

Who we are?
M&G Alternatives is the Funds, Co-investments and Secondaries business of M&G plc. We manage c.£10bn1 across three main pillars: Private Equity, Real Assets2 and Diversifying Strategies. M&G has a long history investing in these asset classes with investments dating back to 1997.

Our investment approach:

  • We invest in managers who have established or are establishing successful track records across our asset classes.
  • We use our relationships, scale and flexibility to tailor bespoke investment solutions as well as invest in co-investments.
  • We work with new managers ahead of investing to ensure they meet high operational standards.
  • We support funds with a high standard of corporate governance and a strong alignment of interest with investors.
  • We build close relationships with our managers and have Advisory Board seats in the majority of cases.
  • We have the flexibility to access the market both through private and listed structures (e.g. investment trusts), allowing us to provide a range of end solutions to our clients.
  • Investment strategy and research are critical to the process and we guided by our long-term views on some of the key global trends affecting society.

Private Equity

The Private Equity team has been investing in private equity primary funds, co-investments, and secondaries since 2000. The team of ten dedicated private equity professionals supported by broader M&G platform has committed over €3bn to +150 different Fund Investments, Secondary Investments and Direct Investments across 75 managers, principally in Europe and Asia, Australia and Latin America, with a preference for mid-market businesses.

Diversifying Strategies

The Diversifying Strategies team has an established track record of investing in diversifying opportunities, managing a global programme of £1.6bn1. We target asset classes that are lowly or uncorrelated with traditional markets, blending hedge funds with niche / opportunistic strategies. Our hedge fund focus favours dynamic trading styles, avoiding structurally long beta strategies. Outside of hedge funds, we seek to identify niche or thematic opportunities where return drivers are less correlated to public markets, have high barriers to entry and where we believe the manager delivers alpha through sourcing, risk selection and execution. Historically, we have performed diligence on opportunities including royalties, insurance linked investments, distressed and special situations.

Real Assets

The Real Assets team focusses on primary funds, co-investments and secondaries across Infrastructure, Leasing and Agriculture & Natural Resources. We manage a global programme of c.£3bn1 in investments across developed and emerging markets, with the first investments dating back to 1997. We invest across the risk spectrum and primarily focus on the mid-market.
