Positive Impact Fund

What is impact investing?

Impact investing means investing in companies that aim to deliver meaningful societal outcomes by addressing the world’s major social and environmental challenges, while at the same time producing a financial return.

The United Nations‘ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were introduced to mobilise the world’s attention on the biggest challenges of our times: poverty, hunger, health, education, amongst others. The SDGs help provide a focal point for impact investments.

Why M&G?

Rigorous impact assessments

In addition to extensive financial analysis, the team conducts an extensive impact assessment which consists of a deep dive into all the positive and negative impacts of all the businesses – it is the depth of the analysis which is key.

Transparency & focus

The fund is quite concentrated, holding between 25 and 35 stocks from a diverse range of companies. Every stock pick is meaningful allowing the team to maximise the portfolio’s impact and avoid the dilution of returns. Holding fewer stocks also means that we can effectively engage with those companies, properly fulfilling our role as an active, impactful investor.

There are very few funds in the listed equity space that are strictly ‘impact’. The fund stays within the pure spirit of impact, ensuring that the companies it invests in have the intention of delivering impact which is meaningful and measurable.

The M&G  Positive Impact Fund invests in companies that have a positive influence on society by addressing the world’s key social and/or environmental challenges. These include companies that make products for affordable and clean energy and those that provide services that combat global poverty.

Impact was historically the reserve of institutional or high net worth investors, with little access for the general public. This fund opens out impact to a much wider audience – it is a liquid, open-ended investment vehicle, which allows ordinary people who want their investments to make a difference, to have a stake in the game.

The fund holds a small number of investments, and therefore a fall in the value of a single investment may have a greater impact than if it held a larger number of investments.

The value and income from the fund’s assets will go down as well as up. This will cause the value of your investment to fall as well as rise. There is no guarantee that the fund will achieve its objective and you may get back less than you originally invested.

The fund can be exposed to different currencies. Movements in currency exchange rates may adversely affect the value of your investment.

The fund invests mainly in company shares and is therefore likely to experience larger price fluctuations than funds that invest in bonds and/or cash.
