Defined benefit Schemes are under pressure. A combination of the 2000 – 2003 equity bear market, declining bond yields and improving longevity of pension scheme members have led to a deterioration in the funding position of most schemes. Going forward a more structured approach to funding will be necessary with assets better aligned to liabilities and with an increased focus on investment strategy.

At M&G, we are able to work with trustees and their advisers to develop tailored approaches to investment utilising our full range of pooled funds. This service enables clients to establish fund structures that can both control risk relative to the liabilities whilst retaining the prospect of delivering excess returns over time.
