Global equities

M&G’s global equity team shares a common philosophy through which investment ideas are discussed and refined. To this end, return on capital is used as the key determinant of company analysis.

This provides the common investment language that allows each member of the team, both fund managers and analysts, to contribute to the investment debate. M&G promotes an open culture where investment ideas are shared and challenged before they are implemented in portfolios.

The M&G Global Equity team’s principles are:

  • Focus on investment performance
  • Active, unconstrained investment driven by bottom-up stock selection
  • Long-term investment horizon
  • Consistent application of each clearly defined strategy

Prices may fluctuate and you may not get back your original investment. The value of overseas investments may be affected by currency exchange rates.

M&G Global Growth Fund

Fund manager: Greg Aldridge

The fund aims to maximise long-term total return (the combination of capital growth and income) by investing mainly in a wide range of global equities.

Key to the investment strategy of the M&G Global Growth strategy is the identification of companies with scarce assets and resources that are not easily replicable. These assets should give the businesses an edge over their competitors to enable value creation for shareholders over the long term. Accordingly, the fund manager is prepared to hold companies with assets whose potential is not fully recognised by the market until other investors’ assessment catches up with his own.

M&G Global Basics Fund

Fund manager: Graham French

The Fund invests wholly or mainly in companies operating in basic industries (‘primary’ and ‘secondary’ industries) and also in companies that service these industries. The Fund may also invest in other global equities. The sole aim of the Fund is long term capital growth.

The companies this fund invests in are considered to be the “building blocks” of the world’s economy. A key aspect to the stock selection process involves the assessment  of structural trends in the global economy and the identification of those companies that are positioned to benefit.

M&G Global Real Estate Securities Fund

Fund manager: Gillian Tiltman

The Fund aims to maximise long term total return, consisting of income and capital appreciation, through investment, on a global basis, mainly in both real estate investment trusts (REITs) and other types of property companies.

The M&G Global Real Estate Securities Fund invests in real estate investment trusts (REITs) as well as other types of property companies to optimise long-term total return. The fund manager aims to exploit market pricing opportunities through the selection of global property stocks that are undervalued by investors, with overall portfolio construction also informed by top-down regional and sector views. The overlay of the fund takes into account real estate dynamics and risk assessment. A high-conviction investment process is utilised to select stocks, with a focus on structural shifts in global property markets through listed, rather than direct, property vehicles. While remaining risk aware, there is a pragmatic approach to stock selection. Attractively priced stocks are screened on an absolute basis, rather than on relative value, in the belief that real estate prices are driven by the net asset value of a company.
