M&G UK Select Fund
Mike Felton
Fund manager: Mike Felton
Products available: ISA, OEIC & Savings Plan
The Fund invests in a range of UK equities. The aim is to maximise total return (the combination of income and growth of capital).
The M&G UK Select Fund is a risk-aware, actively-managed, focus fund. Stockpicking dominates the investment process and there is no predefined investment style or company size preference. The fund aims to exploit stock volatility and shifts in market sentiment. The number of holdings is limited to around 40 and careful attention is paid to risk, as it cannot be reduced by diversification in the usual manner. A distinctive approach to portfolio construction, including a core and a satellite element, assists in lowering the volatility levels of the portfolio.
Mike joined M&G in January 2005 as the head of UK Retail Equities. Mike’s career began in 1989 as a graduate trainee at Sun Alliance Investment Management working in the UK equity team. By 1997, he assumed responsibility for his first retail fund, the Royal & Sun Alliance Equity Fund. In April 2001, Mike was appointed manager of the newly created Royal & Sun Alliance Prime Fund, an early example of a new breed of focus funds. After the investment business of Royal & Sun Alliance was taken over by Friends Ivory & Sime in 2002, he was appointed head of retail equities for the combined group, whose name was changed to ISIS Asset Management. Mike graduated from Leicester Polytechnic (now De Montfort University) with a BA honours in economics.
