Human Resources (HR)
HR’s role in M&G is to ensure that M&G is able to attract, motivate, reward and develop the people needed to achieve M&G’s business plans.
M&G is a leader in the financial services sector and the environment in which M&G’s staff work, their skills, work and performance - the culture of our business – will determine M&G’s success. HR’s role is to help M&G deliver that environment.
Broadly speaking the role of M&G HR can be defined as follows:
- Seeking to achieve best practice in people management issues in relation to M&G’s competitors, the Prudential’s Group-wide people policies and the broader employment market.
- Implement and maintain high quality standards and practices in order to facilitate superior business performance.
- Ensuring M&G is legally compliant in respect of the way staff are treated.

Finance
M&G Finance covers a number of disciplines including financial, statutory and taxation accounting. Dedicated finance teams work closely with each business unit, with support provided by a central finance function based across London and Chelmsford.

Risk
- Central Risk Assessment (CRA) provides consolidated risk analysis and risk management information to the Risk Director and the M&G Group Risk Committee in order to support and monitor the effectiveness of risk management processes across M&G Group. CRA also provides information, tools and training to support risk management processes within the business and co-ordinates with Other Specialist Risk Functions.
- MAGIM Risk Assessment is responsible for encouraging and supporting the analysis, reporting and management of risk by the Equities and Fixed Income business units. It is concerned with both investment risks managed by M&G as an agent for its clients and the operational risks to M&G itself arising from complex investment instruments and processes.
- Market Risk builds financial models and performs front office analytics (cashflow analysis, instrument modelling, pricing, valuations) to enable fund managers and clients to minimise risk whilst maximising return.
- Credit Risk team is responsible for performing analysis on potential new counterparties so that the risk committee can make appropriate decisions. For existing counter parties it sets, manages, monitors and reports trading exposure limits.
- Risk Processing and Controls work closely with MAGIM Risk Assessment, providing independent controls and monitoring of derivatives for MAGIM and Prudential Finance UK. They also form “first line of defence” risk management activities.

Internal Audit
Internal Audit forms part of the ‘third line of defence’ for risk management activities and includes the following activities:
- Risk Audit - Annual review of the operations of the risk framework and control self-certification (CSC) process across M&G.
- Reviews - Annual review of the operational risk controls in the M&G Group Key Risk Report and reviews of the major change programmes
- Consultancy to M&G - Review of processes proposed by Business Unit Boards where possible.
- Reviews on behalf of Prudential plc - Conduct theme reviews as requested by Prudential Group Internal Audit, GHO and UKIO.

The Legal team provide an in-house legal and company secretarial service for the M&G Business Unit.

Compliance
The compliance team are responsible for ensuring that M&G operates within the guidelines and rules set out by the Financial Services Authority and works in tandem with the front office businesses and distribution to ensure that new products and marketing are appropriate.
