The Fund aims to maximise total return primarily through investment in bonds issued by emerging market nations and their agencies, though the Fund can also hold a proportion of its portfolio in other debt investments. There are no restrictions on the currency in which bonds held in the portfolio may be issued, and accordingly the Fund may carry a greater than usual currency risk, which will not normally be hedged. The Fund is diversified by country, from Latin America to Europe to Asia, and by credit rating from ‘BBB’ Investment grade to ‘NR’ (not rated). The Fund only holds Eurobonds and Brady bonds issued by emerging market borrowers and denominated G7 currencies. It will not hold loans or corporate issues, which can be higher risk and offer lower long term returns, nor emerging market country debt.
Jim is Head of M&G Retail Fixed Income and a fund manager on the global fixed interest desk.
After graduating in 1992, Jim joined the Bank of England as an analyst of monetary statistics and PSBR. He later moved within the Bank to become a gilt and money market trader, a position he occupied for three years.
Jim graduated from Manchester University with a BA in Economics and is an Associate of the Institute of Investment Management & Research.
